Failure and fear, the fear of failure. Too often people fail to take risks, to step into the unknown, yet they constantly complain that their life isn’t what they want it to be, they hate their job, they hate their hometown, their partner, their life. But they are comfortable. They grow complacent. And therein lies the rub. The comfort they have, the fear of change and failure that they have, is ultimately what holds them back.
But change, true lasting change that is, only happens when we are uncomfortable, and uncomfortable for a prolonged period. I understand that the world is tough, the cost of living is rising, rent is through the f**king roof, food is going up, energy bills are criminal. But that cannot be an excuse to stop you from doing what you want, what you need to do in life. Find a way. Try, fall, fail, but get up and try again.
I understand what it feels like to be trapped, I’ve felt it, stuck in a dead-end job going nowhere, being taken for granted by employers that don’t care about you, it’s about the bottom line. And if you’ve got kids, got bills to pay, it’s hard to see a way out, it’s hard to find the courage to step off the cliff. Maybe you have to save penny’s just to give yourself a chance.
But what I see, most of the time anyway, is people hold themselves back, they get in their own way, and they talk themselves out of going for that new job, starting that business or side hustle. The fear of failure is a dangerous prospect, our fear keeps us in situations where our hearts and minds tell us we should of left. Ask any athlete, any successful businessman or Entrepeneur, failure happens, and most of the time, it’s necessary in order to grow, to learn.
The truth is, the comfort zone feels safe, but it’s a prison of our own making. The Modern Man must learn to recognize the signs—when our comfort becomes stagnation, when our routine becomes a rut, and when our dreams seem out of reach because we fear failure. It’s time to break free from that cage.
Think about it: what’s the worst that could happen? If you fail, you learn. If you fall, you get back up. The only real failure is giving up before you’ve truly tried. It’s only the end of the road if you stop. The Modern Man embraces the discomfort because that’s where growth happens. When you look at people who are truly successful, they didn’t get there by playing it safe; they took risks, made mistakes, and grew stronger from them.
So take that step. Apply for that job you thought was out of reach. Start that business, even if it seems daunting. Move to that new city, if your heart is pulling you there. You only have one life, so don’t waste it in a cage. Break out and chase your dreams with everything you’ve got.
Change isn’t easy. It requires courage, persistence, and the willingness to embrace uncertainty. But it’s worth it. The sense of freedom and accomplishment that comes with taking risks and pursuing your passions is unparalleled. You owe it to yourself to go after what you want, even if it means stepping into the unknown.
