Keeping fit, working out, staying active. It’s important to stay in good shape in the modern world, just as it was important to our ancestors. Sure, we don’t need to hunt and gather our food like they used to, we aren’t fighting off large packs of roaming predators or other tribes (mostly). But what we are doing is keeping our minds and our bodies sharp, to be prepared for any possible outcome in any given situation. You don’t have to be a bodybuilder, a CrossFit athlete or built like a powerlifter, but maintaining good cardiovascular conditioning as well as developing a physique that is capable in terms of strength can pay dividends for longevity as well as reliability if and when s**t hits the fan.
It’s easy to get caught up in the fitness trends and influencers who make it seem like you need to be a chiseled Adonis to be considered fit. But the truth is, fitness is about finding a routine that works for you and sticking to it. Consistency is key. Whether you’re into weightlifting, running, yoga, or even just long walks, the important thing is to move your body regularly.
Fitness isn’t just about looking good—though that’s a nice bonus—it’s about feeling good and living a longer, healthier life. Regular exercise can improve your mood, boost your energy levels, help you sleep better, and reduce stress. It’s also a great way to clear your mind and tackle the day’s challenges with a fresh perspective. We all know that life can be stressful, and working out is a great way to relieve that stress.
You don’t need to spend hours in the gym every day. Sometimes, a quick 30-minute workout is all it takes to get your heart rate up and your blood flowing. The key is to find activities that you enjoy and can stick with in the long term. If you hate running, don’t force yourself to do it. Find something else that gets you excited to move, whether it’s dancing, swimming, or playing a sport.
Nutrition plays a huge role in fitness as well. Eating a balanced diet that includes plenty of fruits, vegetables, whole grains, and lean proteins is essential. It’s okay to indulge in the occasional treat, but balance is everything. You can’t out-train a bad diet, as they say. And hydration is just as important. drink plenty of water throughout the day to stay hydrated and energized.
The modern man should embrace fitness as a way of life, not just as a temporary goal to achieve a certain look. Fitness should be about making sustainable changes that benefit your overall well-being. It’s about being strong enough to handle whatever life throws at you, physically and mentally. So, get out there and find what moves you, what drives you to be the best version of yourself. And remember, it’s not about being perfect; it’s about progress.
Take care of your body, and it will take care of you. Stay fit, stay healthy, and stay ready for anything. After all, in this modern world, the prepared man is the one who thrives.
Faithfully yours.
Jack.
